“Back Links”
What are these, and why are they important?
Any website owner can create any arbitrary document and demand that the
site be indexed by all search engines.
However, the importance of this owner created website in the scheme of
the entire internet can only be determined by the number of and importance of
the websites that “Back link” to it.
Each search engine
has its own formula used to determine the importance of a website, but
invariably without exception, all modern search engines will definitively count
the number of links that link back to a web site. Hence the term “Back Links”

Other than “Back links” is there anything else that is important for a
website to be found?
Yes! The keywords that a user will use to search for your site.
How exactly does a search engine know what pages to bring up in the top
10 when your customer searches for you?
The exact algorithm is different per search engine, however what is very
accurate for all engines is this.
Your site may show up in the top 10 if both “on
page” and “off page” optimizations are in place:
On Page Optimizations ( on your own
web site, u can do this yourself )
·
The
keywords being searched for are in your web page Title
·
The
keywords being searched for exist several times on your web page.
·
The
keywords being searched for are also in at least one link on your home page
Off Page Optimizations ( on other
people’s sites )
·
The
keywords being searched for are in the “linking text”
on other sites pointing back to your site.
·
Other
people think your site is important enough to link back to.
OK I am ready let me go to the form.
Is this all there is to it? Well, yes it is and no its not?
You or your web editor can make changes to your site easily enough, but
the problem is getting other people to link back to you.
How exactly is this done? And does it matter who the “other people” are?
“How exactly” is the key reason that you are here, and Yes, it matters.
Google, Yahoo and MSN are particular about the pages that link back to
your site. In their own words, the search engines are looking for “relevancy”.
If the page linking back to your site has text and links on it which
make the search engines believe that it’s topic matter is not even remotely
linked to your own, then the link may be
perceived as being “contrived” and its overall benefit to you may be
questionable.
So, how do you go about getting relevant links to your site?
Well, its really quite easy. Write a form letter explaining the benefits
of linking to your site and send it out to 200 prospective related website owners,
if you can find their email address.
You will get back between 10-15% positive responses and some of these may even link back.
You will need to probably place links on your site to all 200 prospects initially,
let them know that you have done them a favour, then monitor their responses.
Just remember to take off the “back links” you have set up for them as
you find that they don’t respond positively.
You may need to send the same or similar email back out to 150 of them
several times.
“Some of you are already nodding your heads. Been there and done that
too!”
