How exactly does a search engine know what pages to bring up in the top 10 when your customer searches for you?

The exact algorithm is different per search engine, however what is very accurate for all engines is this.

 

Your site may show up in the top 10 if  both “on page” and “off page” optimizations are in place:

 

On Page Optimizations ( on your own web site, u can do this yourself )

·        The keywords being searched for are in your web page Title

·        The keywords being searched for exist several times on your web page.

·        The keywords being searched for are also in at least one link on your home page

 

 

Off Page Optimizations ( on other people’s sites )

·        The keywords being searched for are in the “linking text” on other sites pointing back to your site.

·        Other people think your site is important enough to link back to.
