It's time to get a railroad ticket! Here are two "Fare Ticket" (notes) from the Charlotte and South Carolina Railroad in a $5 and $10 denomination. These obsolete notes were called "Fare Tickets" and denominated in miles in order to avoid Federal law that prohibited the issuance of paper money by private companies' notes and are dated October 1, 1873, and were used throughout the South during Reconstruction.
